State troopers in Maine surrounded a man's home this week following reports of a gun—a gun that was tattooed to his waist.

The trouble began when Michael Smith of Norridgewock exited his house Tuesday morning shirtless, demanding that a tree removal company promptly leave his property. Workers thought they saw a gun in Smith's waistband—which they did, technically.

The company called police, and authorities arrived at Smith's home armed with real guns. However, authorities quickly realized that an error had been made. "Obviously it was a misunderstanding and he didn't have a weapon, but we had to respond to the initial report as if he did," a police spokesman told the Morning Sentinel, adding that they take every precaution "when [they] don't have the details."

Smith kept a sense of humor about the confusion and subsequent encounter with men with real guns, saying "I got plans today. I didn't want to get shot." No one did. The funny thing is, the gun in the waistband is the least concerning of Smith's tats. Look closely.

He will not face any charges.
