Pinteresters looking for inspiration on how to build an armoire out of popsicle sticks or an angel food cake shaped like a pair of Louboutins may be in for a bit of a disappointment today. The lifestyle social network appears to have been hacked by, of all things, a mass weight loss scam. Many accounts have been taken over by before and after weight loss photos, heavily featuring butts and other body parts.

Our systems were alerted to some incidents of spam yesterday evening. These reports did not come in at a large scale. We began working on cleaning up and placing the accounts in safe mode immediately. The accounts have since been secured. As a precaution, Pinners should use unique and strong passwords, and can get more information in our Help Center," a Pinterest spokesperson told TechCrunch.

As always, beware of pesky and often malicious third-party apps and link redirects. And, in the meantime, there's always Tumblr.
