The New York Times is reporting that after the announced sale yesterday of the beloved virtual reality pioneer, Oculus VR, to Facebook that the premier product, the Oculus Rift, will eventually be branded with the Facebook logo and designed with a Facebook-like interface.

Social media giant Facebook shelled out an estimated $2 billion dollars for the promising VR company. Oculus VR founder Palmer Lucky released a statement on bringing virtual reality to a wider audience than just gaming.

"When Facebook first approached us about partnering, I was skeptical,” Luckey said. “As I learned more about the company and its vision and spoke with [Mark Zuckerberg], the partnership not only made sense, but became the clear and obvious path to delivering virtual reality to everyone."

Oh, and he gets a crap ton of money. Gaming companies who've been throwing tons of time into the developing Oculus Rift versions of games are waking up to the strange news today. Minecraft creator Notch proceeded to promptly cancel development of a version of the game for Oculus Rift.

What do you think? Are game developers going to be collectively dragging their Oculus rigs to the trash cans this morning? What about the Kickstarter backers who helped get the company up and running? Does it feel like a betrayal to sell out so quickly?
