For Complex City Guide’s first episode of HypeEats, we went to the Dominique Ansel Bakery in Soho to check out the latest phenomenon from pastry mastermind Dominique Ansel. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Ansel invented the Cronut—the croissant/donut hybrid that took the culinary world by storm. (Even now, people still wait for hours to get their hands on one.)

For Ansel’s follow-up, he’s got another combination-based dessert up his sleeve, but this time he's tackling the age-old pairing of chocolate chip cookies and milk. He has created a shot glass made of cookie:the Cookie Shot.

City Guide'sClaire Onderdonk was on the scene for the debut of Ansel's latest confectionery marvel and interviewed a number of cookie enthusiasts who waited in line for over an hour to get a bite of the new craze. Ansel also answered a few pressing questions about the new treat via email.

CG: Traditionally, you eat the cookie and then wash it down with milk, but with the Cookie Shot, you drink and then eat. How does this change the experience?

DA: Well, people have been eating it differently. Some take the shot and then eat the cookie, and others use the ice cream cone approach, where they slowly nibble it down and around the edges. It's really up to personal preference, and we offer a complimentary chaser shot of milk here for customers who ask.

CG: How did you come up with the idea?

DA: I was actually designing something exclusively for SXSW when I started, and since our event at SXSW was a midnight saloon at a bar, I was inspired by the shot glass. There's been cookie cups before, but in my version it was important that: 1. It's a chocolate chip cookie, 2. It stays super moist, and 3. We could serve it warm (which we do here in the bakery with a very gentle and specially monitored warming process).

CG: Do you recommend putting Baileys in it? What are some other liquids that might be tasty with the cookie shot?

DA: I love Baileys, and that would be delicious. I also like the idea of an iced coffee or iced mint chocolate...something cold to balance off the cookie.
