Now that BioShock developer Irrational Games has been shuttered by nerd-power champion and co-founder Kevin Levine what will happen to one of the most award-winning and creative franchises in gaming history?

Publisher Take Two has assured the world that there is plenty of life left in the series and saw its stock jump as a result.

While series creator Ken Levine has moved on to create games at a smaller gaming studio that he will found, investors with Take Two saw his exit has a good sign, questioning the most recent DLCs for BioShock: Infinite that took more creative and narrative freedom than in the past. Which also resulted in some mixed reviews.

"Thanks to Irrational and 2K's passion in developing the games, and the fans who believe in it, BioShock has generated retail revenues of over a half billion dollars and secured an iconic place in gaming," Levine noted in his farewell address posted on Irrational Games main page. "I'm handing the reins of our creation, the BioShock universe, to 2K so our new venture can focus entirely on replayable narrative. If we're lucky, we'll build something half as memorable as BioShock."

A spokesperson from Take Two assured media outlets that BioShock does have a future even if it remains up in the air at the moment. "BioShock is one of our most beloved and critically acclaimed franchises, and we are indebted to Ken and the talented team at Irrational Games for their contributions to the series with BioShock and BioShock Infinite; the latter being one of the most decorated games of 2013."

What do you think? Did you play the final DLC for Bioshock: Infinite? It felt very much like the series wrapping up. Where would you like to see it go in the future?
