In due time, wine made by convicted murderers will be featured on the menus of some of New York City's finest restaurants.
According to the New York Post, both Chelsea's Del Posto and Midtown's Felidia are among the restaurants that will offer bottles of Gorgona, a white wine made by prisoners housed on a tiny Tuscan island of the same name. The island is home to about 50 prisoners who are forced to pick grapes and operate tractors as part of their rehabilitation.
Sources told the Post that one such convict is Benedetto Ceraulo, the man who killed Maurizio Gucci in 1995. Inmates on Gorgona have already produced roughly 2,700 cases of wine; 1,000 of these are destined for the U.S.
The wine is priced at $95 per bottle and bears a label detailing its origin.
