Nintendo isn't jumping into the mobile gaming market yet, but it did take a big step today by introducing it's first free-to-play game. A sequel to the 3DS game Steel Diver launched last night called Steel Diver: Sub Wars for the 3DS.

The game is free to download but gamers will only get a small amount of content if you don't splurge for the premium edition. The free download comes with two subs while premium has 18. While there are no in-game purchases this makes Sub Wars feel more like a demo than a conventional free-to-play.

What Sub Wars does have going for it is the eight player online and local battles. Nintendo describes the game as a “tactical FPS” or first-person shooter. Check it out on the Nintendo eShop.
