Ellen Page officially came out last week, and lucky for her, her X-Men costar Gandalf Sir Ian McKellen has some advice on being a gay actor. The veteran thespian came out over 25 years ago in 1988, so he knows a thing or two. "I’ve never met a gay person who came out and who regretted it. Never," he told BuzzFeed. "So, my advice to anyone in the closet — it doesn’t matter whether they’re a teacher, or a politician, or a priest, or an actor — come out. Join the human race."

McKellen is known for many, many roles, most recently Magneto in the X-Men reboot. Page first garnered attention as Juno in the eponymous film. She announced she was gay at  Human Rights Campaign's Time to Thrive event on February 14.

“All this has come to a happy conclusion, hasn’t it? With Ellen Page — Kitty Pryde — coming out. That gladdened my heart so much,” McKellen said. “For people who are lonely … reading that about someone whose career they follow is a little bit of a help and encouragement to them to think it does get better.”
