Since Mad Men debuted in the summer of 2007, its earned the superlative of being considered one of the best dramas in just about ever. And, apart from everybody getting hammered at work with their seemingly endless supply of booze (not to mention, Don Draper's inability to keep it in his pants) the theme, RJD2'sA Beautiful Mine is one of the most recognizable parts of the show—so could you even imagine Mad Men without those somber violins and descending piano licks during the opening credits?

Welp, it looks like that was almost the case: In an effort to support his new album Morning Phase, Beck did an interview with Billboard Magazine and revealed that he had a chance write the theme song for the series.

"My instinct has definitely gone awry; I could give you many examples," he explains citing how he repeatedly turned down requests to write a song for some TV show. "It's about ad executives in the '60s? They're going to make a show about that? Really? Um, I don't think so... yeah, just like the best show ever made!"

It's alright Beck, we all have regrets.

In the mean time, gear up for the first half—WHY AMC, WHY?—of the final season of Mad Men, which airs April 13 at 10/9c.
