Get Your Mind Blown By The First Trailer For Terry Gilliam's "Zero Theorem," Starring Christoph Waltz

This looks like a return to form for the man behind Brazil.

The movie industry hasn’t been kind to director Terry Gilliam over the years. Budgetary issues and battles for creative control with studios have left many of his projects either compromised or canceled altogether. But when he’s on his game, he’s capable of visionary works like Brazil and 12 Monkeys. Now his latest film, titled The Zero Theorem, sees Gilliam back in his sci-fi wheelhouse, along with the brilliant Christoph Waltz.

In the movie, Waltz plays a computer genius who is at the brink of an existential crisis when he works on a project designed to solve the greatest problem of all: the meaning of life. The debut trailer for the movie is pure Gilliam. Striking visuals, complex themes, and ambiguity run rampant throughout, leaving us just trying to keep up. Although there are more questions than answers throughout, fans of heady sci-fi madness should find something to latch onto here. Be sure to check out the full trailer above.

In addition to Waltz, Zero Theorem also stars Melanie Thierry, Lucas Hedges, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, and Matt Damon. As of now, there is no U.S. release date, but you can expect it some time in 2014.
