Brutally Difficult Archaeological MetroidVania "La Mulana 2" Goes To Kickstarter (Video)

Great news for "Indiana Jones" fans.

With its equal parts Indiana Jones and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, La-Mulana made waves among the indie game community for being one of the toughest, most maddeningly opaque adventure games ever, largely after it was remade in a modernized 16-bit aesthetic in 2011. Last September developer Takumi Naramura announced plans to do a sequel to the game, and earlier this week La-Mulana 2 indeed popped up on Kickstarter.

Naramura and his small team at Nigoro are looking for $200,000 to bring the game to PC - Nigoro is an exceptionally modest development studio - with stretch goals for handheld and console versions, among many other goodies. You don't really need to know much about La-Mulana to understand its genius. Picture a sprawling non-linear temple filled with ancient artifacts, cryptic puzzles, and as many traps, monsters and ways to die as you can imagine. The sequel will have more of this, in an adventure that will last 20 to 30 hours.

As of this writing, La-Mulana 2 has about $122,000 of its $200,000 goal, though in order to play it on consoles, it'll need to break over $1 million in the next 27 days. Anyone who is a fan of hardcore 2D adventure games is highly, highly encouraged to contribute. In the meantime, you can check out some early footage and conceptual aspects of the game in the above video – if you want to donate to the Kickstarter you may do via the link below.
