2012’s Pitch Perfect was a much bigger hit for Universal than it had any right to be. Off of a modest $17 million budget, the movie pulled in more than $110 million at the worldwide box office and helped solidify the rising stars of Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. Obliviously dollar signs talk in Hollywood, so it should come as no surprise that the studio is putting Pitch Perfect 2 into production right away. What should come as a surprise, though, is that Universal has chosen one of the movie's stars, Elizabeth Banks, to direct the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success,” said Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley. “She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”

This will be Banks’ feature directorial debut, plus she will be reprising her role from the first film as well. Thankfully Banks won’t be going at it alone because both Wilson and Kendrick are also set to return for the highly-anticipated sequel. No pressure, right?
