The developers of new cryptocurrency Coinye responded to a cease and desist letter from Kanye West's lawyers with their own riotous letter, claiming their updated version of the currency is not linked to the rapper.
The original logo was a stylized cartoon version of West on the back of a gold coin. But West’s lawyers protested, stating that the name and image on the coin constituted a trademark violation even though the product is not an official product. Coinye is now presenting the competitor to Bitcoin and Dogecoin as a “half-man-half-fish hybrid who is wearing sunglasses," which is hilarious to say the least.
Here's a portion of the letter, and you can read it all on this Google Doc.
Coinye has since changed the branding of their release to avoid a possible lawsuit from West’s camp. However, even with Yeezy’s cartoon face no longer blanketing the coin, it’s clear that he’s still the focal point of the project. Plus, it's a nice South Park reference, too.
