What's the use of money if you don't spend it?
To potentially add to the growing list of things Yahoo has purchased since Marissa Mayer has taken over, the company has reportedly looked into buying the popular photo-sharing site, Imgur, which is insanely loved by Redditors. Yahoo could be looking to acquire the company for $100 million to $500 million, according to Business Insider, which would be far less than the $1 billion they paid for Tumblr. Imgur was founded by Alan Schaaf in 2009, who was then a student at Ohio University in Athens. Schaaf grew tired of photo-sharing sites like Photobucket, and wanted to make something efficient for people who wanted to post to Reddit. "I got fed up with all the other image hosts out there so I made my own," he said in a post on the site. "It doesn't force you to compress your images, and it has neat things like crop, resize, rotate, and compression from 10-100. It's my gift to you. Let's not see anymore imageshack/photobucket around here ;)"
Imgur is already bigger than Reddit: it earns about 100 million visitors to Reddit's 85 million. Though Imgur would give Yahoo more of a youthful crowd of users—as Tumblr did—it looks like a purchase of the company would likely be primarily for advertising purposes, since Yahoo already has photo-sharing sites like Flickr (and, well, Tumblr.)
