Ian Ruhter wanted to go back to the age when photography took a little bit more time, and was more hands-on, requiring some muscle and some sweat. So, that's exactly what he did.

After becoming fed up with everyone having the same DSLR camera, Ruhter decided to make the photography process a more intimate experience by turning to chemical-coated plates, which is what early photographs were taken on. His new video documents the process, and is a site to behold—you might be surprised at how stunning his photographs come out. It all requires a lot of space, and Ruhter built the camera in the back of a van. This is turning out pretty useful, since now he's traveling across America to photograph the people and places he is running into. "We want to tell your story and show your city or town through photographs of you, and people you know," he says. "As we travel around America looking for people and places to shoot you will be able to keep track of where we are going and help us decide where we go next. "
