Here's some far-fetched but also potentially AMAZING casting news: According to multiple sources including Variety and Collider, Warner Bros. is aiming really, really high to cast the role of Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman vs. Superman: They're reportedly planning to extend an offer to Joaquin Phoenix for the role.

According to Variety, none of this has been confirmed yet, but multiple sources close to production are reporting that the Phoenix is being pursued for the role of the "main villain," which is thought to likely be Luthor. Other stars including Jason Momoa have been attached to villain roles in the film, but Collider reports that those roles were never the lead villain.

While the thought of Phoenix taking on the role of Lex Luthor is an amazing one, even if Warner Bros. does extend an offer, Variety makes a good point about Phoenix's likeliness to consider it:

None

Already confirmed to star in Batman vs. Superman is, of course, Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, and Gal Gadot
