Video games are hard.

Trying to stay on top of new releasese can seem even harder. Steam, the eShop, PSN, XBLA, the platforms for games to be introduced into the wild is legion. Luckily for you, we're here to help. While the weeks leading up to the holidays is more about purchasing already released games and consoles, there are a few noteworthy releases creeping out through the month of December.

Nothing mind-blowing, mind you, but there are some gems (Walking Dead Season 2, FTW) worth copping this holiday season. Here are five games dropping this week that are (mostly) worth your money.

Gran Turismo 6 boasts over 1197 cars and one lunar rover. While most of that massive number is going to come courtesy of unlocks, some of that is going to be taking the form of DLC. The Gran Turismo series is as divisive as it is realistic. Fans of the series geek out over modifying engine manifolds to shave .08 seconds off their lap times while the rest of us crash into guardrails as an effective means of steering.

Inclusive as the series may seem, it doesn't change how devoted fans of the series are. Expect hyper-realism to the Nth degree for the sixth entry into the venerated racing franchise. The one title dropping this week that is worth the scratch.

It's probably a dead tie as to how many times Mario and Sonic have been exhumed and reanimated for another sequel. Did anyone actually enjoy Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games? We didn't think so. Nintendo is porting over the original Sonic the Hedgehog title for 3DS owners with the new, uninspired name of 3D Sonic the Hedgehog.

Altered Beasts is by no means a brilliant game. It's actually just a delivery system for Sega sentimentality. However, Altered Beasts still holds a special place thanks to very important fact that you can turn into a fucking wolfman. The eShop release of the title does add some new features such as a two-player link-up mode and the option to switch the order of the beast transformations, but other than that it's pretty much the same game as the classic Genesis release.

On December 3, Battlefield 4 will be looking to sell you four new maps as part of the China Rising DLC pack. Thanks to Reddit,we've got an early look at aerial views of all four maps. Pictured above is the Guilin Peaks map and it looks monstrous. Plan your tank hijacking accordingly.

Spearhead Games wanted to make one thing very clear with their PS4 release, Tiny Brains: story is not what's driving this game. This puzzler prioritizes cooperation with other players over any weighty narrative. Players control four rodents, each with a different power set, in order to navigate and escape the lab the titular tiny brains are being held. It's campy, but it also looks like an easy title to round out your PS4 library.
