Car Accident, False Gun Report Lead to LAX Havoc

A horrible night for travelers.

A car accident and a phone call about gunman resulted in a chaotic night at LAX. Tensions were high following the Nov. 1 incident that left left a TSA officer dead and six people injured after 23-year-old Paul Anthony Cianca opened fire.

According to USA Today, LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles said a car crashed outside of Terminal 5 last night, causing passengers to report gunfire and flee. A woman reportedly lost control of her vehicle while driving on the airport's arrivals loop around 7:30 p.m., striking another woman who was on the sidewalk, then hitting a parking garage across from Terminal 5.

Both women were injured; the pedestrian suffered serious injuries.

Not long after the crash, an anonymous caller reported a man with a gun at Terminal 4. Police arrived soon after to conduct a sweep of both terminals and authorities confirmed that no shots had been fired.

Roughly 2,000 passengers were evacuated from the terminals; dozens of flights were delayed and a few were redirected.
