A 24-year-old woman was killed in Phoenix yesterday morning after she was accidentally shot while hugging her boyfriend. Sgt. Tommy Thompson, spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, told Arizona's ABC15 that the woman was embracing her 18-year-old boyfriend, who had the weapon tucked inside of his waistband. It was causing the woman discomfort, so he removed it; that's when it discharged.

She was rushed to the hospital, where she would later pass away. Though Thompson said the shooting appears to be accidental, he added that an investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Maricopa Country Attorney's Office.
