No Wonder Doritos Are So Good

It makes so much sense.

There's actually a scientific reason for why you love Doritos to the point of licking the deliciousness from your fingers after practically inhaling the bag in under 30 seconds. Food scientist Steven A. Witherly, who wrote Why Humans Like Junk Food, told the New York Times that they've been created to make you an addict.

Credit that to the umami and other long-lasting flavors that trigger memories of how good the Doritos are. There isn't a specific flavor that stands out, so "sensory specific satiety"—the feeling of being satisfied by a single flavor—is avoided.

So go ahead and enjoy the many Doritos flavors like the fiend that you are, because you don't stand a chance. Resistance to their awesomeness is futile.
