Like many RPGs released for the Super Nintendo, Secret of Mana is held in high regard (as well as it should be). Unlike, say, Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger, though, the series arguably never really caught on to the same extend that Square’s other 16-bit classics did, despite numerous other Mana titles released throughout the years.

Whether you’re new to the game or bought the cartridge in a time when SNES titles could reach as high as $80-90, this letter series looking at Secret of Mana’s legacy between Gamasutra’s Christian Nutt and Johann Sebastian Joust developer Douglas Wilson commemorating the game’s 20th anniversary  (which happened August 6) is great look back on a sometime overlooked gem. Enjoy and remember (or discover), and happy birthday, Mana.
