The 3DS’ new Link to the Past sequel A Link Between Worlds is shaping up nicely. Demo’d by IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, this gameplay clip shows Link running through familiar overworld forest, chopping at bushes and enemies and using his newfound ability to (for some reason) turn into a chalk drawing to cross gaps by navigating walls as a 3D space.

As for the dungeons, they seem to scale vertically (the game is still top-down) and look as though when coupled with the chalk drawing mechanic things will probably get pretty complex. Two other cool things: your items are measured by an item meter rather than inventory numbers and the despite looking 3D the game’s aesthetic looks pretty close to a really accurate representation of the old-school late-‘80s/early-‘90s anime look Zelda utilized as key art in Link to the Past’s heyday.
