Former New York City Comptroller and current mayoral candidate Bill Thompson, who's been criticized for his lax position on the NYPD's controversial stop-and-frisk practice in the past, compared it to the events that led to Trayvon Martin's death. Martin, 17, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla. in February 2012. Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder charges on Jul. 13.
Thompson, the city's single African-American mayoral candidate, connected the two events during a speech at Brooklyn church yesterday:

Though Thompson has spoken out against stop-and-frisk, he isn't in favor of the two proposed City Council bills that plan to curb it. He belives that starting the year off with a new mayor who's more sensitive to the issue will bring a much-needed solution to the problem.
