Sprint is shutting down Nextel, the company's push-to-talk network, at the end of this month. So if you're one of the few people with a Nextel phone, it's time to begin looking elsewhere. That elsewhere, though, may just be AT&T.

AT&T is planning to gather up as many of Nextel's remaining customers as possible by announcing their plans to offer push-to-talk features on the iPhone. "Push-to-Talk," essentially, is a service that transforms your phone into a long-distance walkie-talkie, and was probably at its highest levels of popularity about a decade ago.

The company plans on enhancing the push-to-talk experience with the iPhone, allowing users to make contact lists of up to 1,000 names and the ability to make group calls of up to 250 people at the same time. The push-to-talk service will be enabled through an app and will work for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
