Though producers were initially saying that longtime star of The Office, Steve Carell, wouldn't be returning for the show's final episode, it looks like they may have just been pulling our leg: According to TVLine, Carell will be back for the series finale, despite executive producer Greg Daniels' insistence otherwise.

"I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode was his goodbye and he didn’t want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved," Daniels said in a conference call with reporters this week. As TVLine points out, though, the wording of this is strange - should he return, sources say that it would be just for a small cameo appearance that wouldn't 'overshadow' the ending at all, so technically Daniels' comment makes sense.

A representative for NBC declined to comment, and Carell's rep said that he will not be appearing in the finale. We'd say don't get your hopes up, but ours are already through the roof. Don't disappoint us, Michael Scott!
