When F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel The Great Gatsby was first published in 1925, there was no way anyone could have predicted that nearly a century later it would be adapted into a sweeping, gorgeous, incredibly ambitious cinematic spectacle like Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming film. Employing a number of his trademark flourishes, the man who brought the world Moulin Rouge and William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet delivers in a huge way with this visually stunning representation of New York in the 1920s.

The Great Gatsby re-teams Baz with Leonardo DiCaprio, nearly twenty years after their first collaboration (on R+J), and adds a number of other amazing actors to its roster including Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, and Joel Edgerton. Baz's fondness for stylish anachronism is also on display with the film's soundtrack, which was curated by Jay Z (who also executive produced the film), and features music from Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine, Beyoncé & André 3000, will.i.am, Fergie, Q-Tip & Goonrock, and more.

The Great Gatsby hits theaters on May 10th, but you can check out the trailer above.
