The next generation of Macs could be Apple's fastest yet.

According to Stan Schroeder at Mashable, a strip of code from the latest beta version of OS X Mountain Lion reveals the new Macs will feature 5G wifi, or what's known as the 802.11ac wireless standard.

This is good news for consumers, as their devices won't just go faster but offer extended wifi range and speedier download times.

The 802.11ac standard isn't mainstream just yet, though Samsung's Galaxy S4 and other smartphones support it, as does Broadcom and other manufacturers' routers. Still, the standard is expected to become commonplace by 2015, says Mashable
