A venerable institution has seen its' doors closed permanently as Disney has dissolved LucasArts, laying off over 150 employees in the process.

Disney confirmed that LucasArts would cease to operate as a video game developer and serve as a licensor. Which is all well and good, but leaves the future of Star Wars 1313 in serious question. You remember 1313. The mature themed Star Wars title that wowed at last year's E3 may never see the light of day.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

LucasArts has been responsible for a TON of Star Wars titles over the years, some better than others. The fact that they won't be producing anymore new titles comes as a bit of a shock. We're most bummed about the very real chance that 1313 will be lost in the shuffle. Let us know what you think.
