When Japanese carrier SoftBank proposed a bid to purchase Sprint, Dish Network made its own bid to possibly gain control of the company. Offering a staggering $25.5 billion for the merger as their initial proposal.
Although Dish Network has no prior reign in mobile networking, the company has made previous attempts to gain entry into the field. Dish expressed interest in merging with T-Mobile last year, as well as going back and forth with Sprint over control of Clearwire. Dish went so far as to get FCC approval to build its own LTE network.
If the merger happens, Dish Network and Sprint would offer broadband, TV, and mobile phone plans in a single package. Dish says it would be “the only company able to offer fully-integrated, nationwide bundle of in and out-of-home video, broadband and voice service."
