NBC is making a show out of Nick Hornby's bestselling 1998 novel, About a Boy. They've already cast New Girl's David Walton in the lead role of Will. Hugh Grant famously played that part in the 2002 movie.

Today the network announced Minnie Driver will play a "kooky" single mom, who lives next door (it was Toni Colette in the movie). Jon Favreau—who also directed last night's episode of The Office—will direct the pilot, written by Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood.

Walton is pretty charming, we'll admit, but we're not sure it's even possible to out-charm Hugh Grant. This is also Driver's third pilot in three years, so here's hoping this one sticks.
