With the recent announcement that JJ Abrams and Valve would be teaming up to bring the world Portal and/or Half-Life movies at some point in the future, it seemed like the stars would finally align for video game movies.

In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Abrams said that he was aware of the chasm between games and movies, and it's something that he hopes to bridge in the future.

“One of the things that’s really appealing about working with Valve is that they’ve got great taste, and that we will have the ability to work with people and not impose what we do on them,” he said.

“We’re not looking to make movies in the game space. We’re looking to make great games that take the strengths of what we know – characters, world-building, creating a sense of emotional connection – and trying ways to try to exploit that in the gaming space, which is a very different animal than movies and TV.”

Good to hear that Abrams is going to handle these properties with the same deft and care that he's shown Star Trek, and, hopefully, Star Wars. What do you think?
