How LinkedIn Tricked 20 Million People into Tweeting about LinkedIn

Social media celebrity isn't exactly the stuff of dreams, but for some people it can mean quite a lot.

Take the 20 million LinkedIn members who received emails from the company this morning congratulating them on being among the top 10% most viewed profiles. The emails let them know if they were among the top 1%, top 5% or top 10%.

That's all well and fine, but considering LinkedIn has 20 million users, according to BuzzFeed FWD who spoke with Keen.io, it might be a bit of a stretch to say 20 million of them are among the professional elite.

Still, the recipients couldn't resist clogging Twitter with their not-so humblebragging.

Here are a few:

Top 1%

Hurray! I have one of the top 1% most viewed @linkedin profiles for 2012. linkedin.com/pub/profile/6/…

Top 5%

Hurray! I have one of the top 5% most viewed @linkedin profiles for 2012. linkedin.com/pub/profile/19…

Top 10%
