We thought Obama's decision to have the CDC investigate any causal links between video games and real world violence was going to be the end of all of this hyperbolic craziness.
We were apparently wrong. Senator Jay Rockefeller has re-introduced his controversial bill to congress after it failed to pass the first time around. If successful it would task the National Academy of Sciences with conducting studies into violence in the media, with the assistance of the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission.
And then what, Senator? Shall we investigate violent books and films afterwards? In a statement from the Senator's office:
“I think everyone can agree that the impact of violent content on our kids’ wellbeing is an important issue, and I’m glad this new plan will take a close look at it."
“I am working hard in the Senate to make sure this type of research — which I have strongly backed throughout my career — is available to inform our work on gun violence. Next week, I plan to reintroduce my bill to have the National Academy of Sciences study the link between violent content and children’s behavior.”
We will keep you updated on the bill's progress. According to Polygon the bill has four new co-sponsors, but still a very low chance of actually becoming a law. Let us know what you think about all of this.
