Gangham Style took the crown as the most-viewed YouTube video last year with over 1 billion hits and Google recently revealed how the record-setting video generated some serious green.
During a recent earnings call, Nikesh Arora, Senior VP and Chief Business Officer at Google, noted: "It generated over $8 million in online advertising deals." PSY, however, does not get to cash in on all those advertising dollars, according to Quartz. The video generates about 65 cents every time it is played with half of that profit going to Google. Unofficially, PSY and his record label have made $4 million off the hit single from YouTube views alone.
