Polaroid Unveils Android-Powered Interchangeable Lens Camera

Old dog, new tricks?

None

Proving it still has some tricks left up its sleeves, Polaroid debuted a next-generation camera at CES yesterday with some cutting edge features.

The Polaroid iM1836 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradeable to the latest 4.2) and boasts an 18 megapixel sensor. It has Wi-Fi built in so you can put that smartphone OS to good use and also supports Bluetooth.

The iM1836 comes with a 10-30 mm kit lens (it's not yet clear what other lenses it will support) and has a 3.5-inch LCD display. The body is made of an ultralight plastic and has a bit of a retro look to it.

Polaroid is targeting the broad consumer market with this camera and it's been priced accordingly. The iM1836 has an MSRP of $400, which makes it one of the cheapest newer ILCs you can buy.
