Google Chrome is updating all the time, but its been a while since the browser has delivered any new features that add fundamentally to the way we interact with the Web. That could all change soon, however, as Google is experimenting with adding voice controls to the mix.
The latest Chrome beta supports a Web Speech API that allows users to speak commands to the browser in addition to dictating Web searches.
Google has shown a renewed focus on voice search with its recently improved and heavily promoted Search app for mobile. That app was a direct challenge to Apple's Siri AI, and if Google can bring more expanded functionality to the browser, it will have an added edge on Apple in another important arena where it already has a stronger foothold.
Developers can use the new API to begin making their own voice apps now.
