We would have never thought that it was possible, but we’re actually excited for The Wolverine. Sure X-Men Origins: Wolverine disgraced both comic books and cinema when it hit theaters in 2009, but the surprising success of X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes got us thinking that 20th Century Fox has finally gotten its blockbuster priorities straight.

With James Mangold at the helm and Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, we think there is enough talent to make this stand out from the comic book movie crowd. Thankfully, it seems like the filmmakers are taking their inspiration for the movie's story from Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s 1982 Wolverine comic book miniseries that famously explored the character’s Eastern influences. If done right, this could be the preeminent interpretation of Wolverine on the big screen.

Now the studio has released a brand new motion poster for the flick that again gives us a taste of the tone, atmosphere, and setting of the film. It’s bleak, rain-drenched, and tragic looking as Logan solemnly meditates with a samurai sword overlooking the Tokyo skyline. Take a look at the image below.

The Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26, 2013.
