"Top Gun" Sequel Grounded After Death Of Tony Scott

Seems appropriate.

None

In the months before director Tony Scott committed suicide, there were reports that he was working on a sequel to his 1986 hit, Top Gun. In fact, just a few days before his death, he was scouting filming locations along with Tom Cruise for the movie. However, now The New York Times is reporting that Top Gun 2 has fallen apart over at Paramount in the wake of Scott’s death.

This isn’t at all surprising, but there is one complication. The studio was also planning on re-releasing the original Top Gun in 3D to get people ready for the sequel, so now Paramount will need to find a way to put out this version of the film without seeming insensitive about the Scott situation. Top Gun 3D will still hit theaters, but it won’t be in the same celebratory way that the studio had envisioned.
