Yoselyn Ortega, 50, has been charged with two counts each of first and second degree murder for the deaths of 6-year-old Lucia Krim and her 2-year-old brother, Leo. Ortega has been recovering from an apparently self-inflicted knife wound to the neck at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The bodies of the children were discovered by Marina Krim, who returned to her Upper West Side apartment with her 3-year-old daughter. The children's father, CNBC executive Kevin Krim, was away on a business trip when the murders occurred.

According to Ortega's friends and relatives, she had been struggling both emotionally and financially, but still couldn't believe that she was responsible for the murders.
