Trailer Park: "The Lone Ranger" Brings Style To The Old West

The classic hero gets introduced to a new generation.

After numerous production and budget issues almost derailed the whole movie, the debut trailer for The Lone Ranger is finally here. But this isn’t the same Lone Ranger that you might be familiar with from the old TV show; instead, director Gore Verbinski has brought a modern big budget feel to the character in an attempt to have him appeal to the masses. The result is a trailer that looks just like a typical blockbuster, but with a time-tested premise and familiar characters thrown into the mix.

Instead of focusing on Armie Hammer’s portrayal of The Lone Ranger himself, this footage gives us a vague sense of the plot and the central conflict involving the control of the railroads. There are also brief glimpses of Johnny Depp as Tonto, but not enough to give us a clue as to how over-the-top he’ll be in the role. The sleek visuals are the main attraction here, so if you like slow-motion and impressive Western landscapes, this trailer should definitely appeal to you.

This is more or less a teaser for what’s to come, and it does the job admirably. There is nothing here that turns us off, but there also isn’t anything that gets us overly excited, either.

The Lone Ranger will hit theaters on July 3, 2013.
