Matthew Vaughn Steps Down As Director Of "X-Men: Days Of Future Past"

Will Bryan Singer replace him?

None

Well this is just an awful way to end the working day. According to Deadline, Matthew Vaughn has stepped down as the director of X-Men: Days of Future Past at 20th Century Fox. Vaughn breathed new life into the mutant franchise with 2011’s X-Men: First Class, but for reasons unknown at this time, things just didn’t work out for the sequel. However, he did write the script treatment for the movie, which was drafted by Simon Kinberg.

The good news? The execs at Fox are eyeing Bryan Singer to return to the franchise as the Days of Future Past director. Singer is the man responsible for crafting the X-Men movie universe in X-Men and X2: X-Men United. Now that Vaughn is gone, Singer would definitely be a worthy, if not superior, consolation prize.

With the movie set for a July 18, 2014 release date, the studio will need to pick a replacement quickly.
