As Google continues its quest to digitize the entire planet, the company today announced that it has put together a team to collect images for what will become a Google Street View map of the national park. Instead of sending its camera-equipped cars, Google's strapping its staffers with a backpack contraption called a "Trekker" that lets them photograph the area. The Trekker connects to a smartphone and snaps photos as the employee walks through the Grand Canyon.

Sounds dope, though we think Google should holler at DARPA and get some AlphaDog robots to capture the Grand Canyon imagery.
