Trailer Park: Jackie Robinson's Story Gets The Big Screen Treatment In "42"

The story that changed the course of American history.

The life story of Jackie Robinson isn’t just compelling from a baseball perspective; it’s one of the watershed moments in American history. Robinson’s Major League Baseball debut in 1947 put the wheels in motion for the desegregation of America, and it helped spur the Civil Rights Movement of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Now that story is coming to life in 42, a biopic about Robinson’s life starring Chadwick Boseman as the legendary Brooklyn Dodger.

This first trailer for the movie doesn’t show us much, but it does set the table for what we can expect from the film. Boseman looks spot-on as Robinson, even though we don’t get to see a whole lot of his performance here. But from what we do see, we catch both the idealistic baseball player side of Robinson, as well as the anger that motivated him. Along with Boseman, we get a very brief look at Christopher Meloni as Leo Durocher and a nearly-unrecognizable Harrison Ford as Dodger executive Branch Rickey.

This trailer is a bit on the short side, but it gives us a feel for the style and tone that director Brian Helgeland is going for, and so far, 42 is looking pretty strong.
