Councilman Jumaane Williams always seems to find himself right in the mix. Last year, Williams was arrested during the West Indian Day Parade, and just last night he took a baton to the chest while observing Occupy Wall Street protests in Zuccotti Park. Demonstrators congregated to celebrate the movement's one-year anniversary.
About two hours prior, police had entered the park and told protesters not to stand on benches. Williams, who was standing on a bench, arrived too late to hear that warning. Williams told Gothamist that he was not injured, adding "I’m okay. I told them I was a Councilmember observing. Guess they didn’t hear me." Check out the video of the incident below.
