Before its release in 1982, the world wasn’t as excited about Blade Runner as you would think. Sure it was directed by Ridley Scott, the man behind Alien, but there wasn’t much to suggest that it would become a benchmark of sci-fi filmmaking. So to drum up interest for the project, M.K. Productions put out a 13-minute behind-the-scenes promotional video for the film that was circulated at comics book, fantasy, and science fiction conventions around the country. The video was recently posted by Open Culture, and now you can check it out in the player above.
Featuring an introduction by Scott himself, and some seriously cheesy ‘80s music, this footage is a fantastic time capsule for the world and culture that the movie was made in. It’s also worth noting that designer Syd Mead and the legendary Douglas Trumbull make brief appearances during this video to show off their brilliant work on the movie. This is a must-see for any film buff out there.
