If you have seen any of Michael Shannon’s movies over the past few years, it’s not a stretch to say that he’s one of the most intense actors in Hollywood today. And in his latest film, The Iceman, Shannon is going to have to ratchet up that intensity even more in order to portray one of the most remorseless killers of the 20th century: Richard Kuklinski. With his cold stare and remorseless veneer, Shannon looks to bring The Iceman’s brutal style perfectly to the screen in this ultra-violent thriller, but it also seems like he captured the dual personalities that made Kuklinski such a complex figure as well.

Throughout this footage we get a look at Kuklinski in his home life – as a loving father and devoted husband. But those flowery scenes quickly give way to the brutal murders that he committed during his 30+ year career as a hitman for the mob. As Shannon strangles, shoots, and bludgeons his way through the trailer, he’s joined by a solid cast of supporting actors like Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, James Franco, and a nearly-unrecognizable Chris Evans. Any supporting cast is going to have to be on the top of their game to be able to match up with Shannon, and it looks like director Ariel Vromen picked the right pieces to go along with him.

We don’t get much into their characters or the plot of the movie in this trailer, but so far The Iceman looks like an interesting exploration into one of the most fascinating killers in U.S. history.

We'll be sure to report on an official release date for the movie once it receives one.
