After The Avengers broke pretty much every box office record imaginable this summer, it was clear that Marvel and Disney would try everything possible in order to keep profiting from the brand while we wait for a sequel. Well now Deadline is reporting that ABC, which is owned by Disney, has just ordered a live-action TV pilot based on S.H.I.E.L.D to be put in production.

The fictional government agency played a huge part in The Avengers, and this would be the perfect way for the company to grab the attention of fans of the movie. The network has tapped Avengers director Joss Whedon to write the pilot, along with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. There is even hope that Joss Whedon will direct the pilot as well, if the scheduling works out.

There is no word on the premise of the show yet, or if Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury for it. However, the S.H.I.E.L.D mythology is pretty dense in the comics, so Whedon will have plenty of other characters and storylines to choose from.
