After breaking some box office records and receiving a strong critical reaction, it appears that Sony is now planning to turn The Amazing Spider-Man into a brand-new trilogy. The studio has said in the past that it was working on a sequel, but there was always hesitation about planning too far in advance before it knew how audiences would react to the reboot.
A post on the movie's official Facebook page stated, "It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."
We all knew at least one sequel was inevitable, but it seems like the studio was simply waiting for the early box office numbers to come in before officially announcing its plans for a franchise. Where would you like to see the trilogy go from here? The mid-credit scene from The Amazing Spider-Man certainly hints at some future plots, but it looks like we'll just have to wait and find out.
The first sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will hit theaters on May 2, 2014.
