Blizzard admitted that Diablo III does not have a particularly engaging end game in a message on the Battle.net forums yesterday. Blizzard community manager Bashiok said that the development team understands that the game lacks "a long-term sustainable end-game."

"There are still tons of people playing every day and week, and playing a lot, but eventually they're going to run out of stuff to do (if they haven't already)," he conceded.

Bashiok claimed that Diablo III's population has stayed "very solid", despite the reports that the number of users has dropped off since launch.

The game's next patch, version 1.0.4, will add some extra content. Aside from the usual bug fixes and balance changes, the update will finally activate the game's PvP arena. Blizzard removed the game's PvP features in order to release the game back in May.

On top of that, the development team is working on new progression systems that will make their to the game in future updates.

Bashiok also responded to accusations that Diablo III was unfinished when it was initially released, saying that the comapny felt it had created enough content to players interested for a long time.

"Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose, but we believed pre-release that the item hunt would be far more sustainable, and would work to be a proper end-game for quite a while," he said. "That didn't turn out to be true, and we recognize that."
