According to Reuters, Intel is partnering with cable companies to create a set-top box with built-in facial recognition. It would allow for the companies to detect age and gender of the viewer in order to better target ads. The two parties could reach an agreement soon, giving way to an initial roll-out as early as next year. If invasion of privacy is a concern, the cable companies will probably need consent from the subscriber to get these things in any homes.
